Meet the Principal Investigators
Stephan Züchner, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Züchner brings twenty years of scientific work in human genetics. He is interested in studying the genomic underpinnings of human disease and his team has contributed significantly with discoveries of several dozen novel disease genes and pathways of human disease, from neurodegenerative disorders to psychiatric phenotypes. He is the Administrative Director for two Rare Disease Clinical Research Centers (RDCRC): the Inherited Neuropathy Consortium and the CREATE ALS Consortium, which have enrolled and generated data for over 5,000 individuals. He is also the founder of the GEM.app/GENESIS sequence analysis platform for rare diseases, which has built an international network of scientists, who have contributed over ~7,000 exome and genome datasets.
Olveen Carrasquillo M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Carrasquillo is national expert in minority health, health disparities, community based participatory research, access to care and community health worker interventions. He has over twenty years of experience leading large NIH Center grants and randomized trials, totaling over $40 million in funding. His work includes research in cancer, diabetes, cardio-vascular disease, HIV, and most recently in precision medicine.
Jacob L. McCauley, Ph.D.
Jacob L. McCauley, Ph.D., is the Associate Director of the Center for Genome Technology at the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics. Dr. McCauley is a genetic epidemiologist whose primary interest is to improve the understanding of human disease through disease gene discovery, genomics, and in-depth examination of environmental factors that influence disease outcome. His research focuses on the use of molecular techniques, bioinformatics, and statistical methods to identify genetic variation and to characterize its role in disease susceptibility and outcomes within a variety of human diseases.
Rosario Isasi, J.D., M.P.H.
Rosario Isasi, J.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor of Human Genetics and Adjunct Professor of Law at the Miller School of Medicine with appointments in the Dr. J. T. Macdonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics, the Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy, the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics and the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute. Professor Isasi has built an international reputation as a scholar with particular expertise in the area of comparative law and ethics regarding genomics and regenerative medicine.
